Looking for good trails in northern Mn

I got a friend coming to stay with me for a few days and I promised to take him backpacking. I just moved to Minnesota (just south of Minneapolis) so I'm not real familiar with the area but I was thinking of checking out something on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Anyone know of any good trails within 4 hour drive of Minnesota. We're looking to spend 3 days and 2 nights. Looking for something with some nice ups and downs and decent views, but trying to avoid bushwhacking this time for my friend's sake.

WISam, you're supposed to go canoing up there, not hiking.

I know, I had a canoeing trip planned up there July but my buddy with the canoe canceled at the last minute. I could rent one, but I'm trying to keep this trip cheap for this guy as he just lost his job (airline employee victim of high fuel prices).
