ZebraLight H51w
The Zebralight H51 and H51w are good all-purpose headlamps which are waterproof and extremely durable. The higher settings are good for visibility at night, while the lower settings are good for around camp. Using only a single AA, the light is very efficient. I highly recommend this light.
Pros
- Durable
- Easy to use
- Efficient
Cons
- Headband needs a bit of reinforcement to prevent bobbing while running
Can't believe none of the Zebralight headlamps have been reviewed here yet. The H51w (neutral white) and the H51 (cool white) headlamps from Zebralight are good all-purpose headlamps, having good throw while still giving a bit of peripheral light as well. There are six different brightness settings (Low 1 & 2, Medium 1 & 2, High 1 & 2).
I've used it almost exclusively for trail running on the higher of the Medium setting, and it provides good visibility and 7-8 hours of battery life. The nice thing though is that when the battery voltage can't support the current setting, it drops down to the next one instead of just fading out; For example, after 8 hours it'll drop to Medium 1.
The body is all metal, waterproof, and extremely durable - mine survived a trip through the washing machine at home completely unscathed.
The only downside that I can think of is the included headband needs a bit of reinforcement to prevent bobbing while running - I solved this by running a third band across the top of my head, which makes it rock solid.
I bought mine from Illumination Gear — good price and excellent, personal customer service.
