photo: Vasque Clarion Impact GTX backpacking boot

I purchased a pair of Vasque Clarion II boots in 1992 for a hiking trip in Hawaii. Never had a single blister in those boots. 14 years later I knew it was time to buy a new boot. I did not hesitate a second before purchasing another pair of Vasques.

I wore my new Clarions today and I love these boots just as much as my old pair. I went on a 3-4 mile hike with my 30-pound son in a backpack. I had no break-in discomfort; that has never been an issue with a properly fit pair of Vasques.

These boots are just as great as my last pair. They are comfortable, grip rocks well, etc., etc. Vasque makes a terrific product; I highly recommend them to anyone purchasing a pair of boots.

Materials: leather nubuck/cordura with gore-tex
Use: rough trail with heavy pack AND dayhikes
Break-in Period: What break-in period?
Weight: 3 lbs. 1 oz.
Price Paid: $125

These boots rock! With the almost seamless leather construction, Gore-Tex lining, and a wicking lining next to my feet, they stayed dry no matter what. They fit my feet almost out of the box, with minimal break in time.

Also, they replaced another pair of Vasque boots- Sundowners, I think- that were older than I was! They never fit my Dad, but they fit me perfectly. Ever after 16 years, they held up beautifully. You can't go wrong with Vasque.

Materials: Leather
Use: Rugged Trail/Bushwhacking w/ 45lb pack
Break-in Period: 2 Months light walking
Weight: 145lbs
Price Paid: $89.99 (on sale)

I've owned these for 5 years now. They held up a lot of days on the trail. The soles are finally wearing short so I'll be looking at another pair this coming fall.

The Goretex liner has been excellent at keeping out water. I've used them snowshoeing, hiking, backpacking, and a couple days at work. I have not had any blisters using these,, just a few hot-spots.

Your basic backpacking boot at a very affordable price.
