Ursack Minor Critter-Resistant Bag

A most effective way to store and protect your food, particularly from rodents, clever mammals, and birds. No need to hang your groceries from a tree.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Compresses as it's emptied
- Critter-proof
- Super durable
Cons
- A frustrated bear can pound the contents to powder.
I've been using the "Critter Sack" for several years now, and not once has it been breached. Many of the places I backpack don't have bear issues, but small rodents and the occasional racoon or raven, are encountered frequently. Some of these places are at, or above, treeline so hanging a food bag just isn't an option. Small bear canisters are bulky and still weigh around two pounds, and the Critter Sack comes in at 5 oz, and compresses down as it gets emptied.
Winter camping on Mt. Rainier required hard-sided bear canisters for years due to foxes and crows raiding campsites, but the Critter Sack has been approved as "meeting food storage regulations".
It's simply a Kevlar sack with a pleated bottom, and a robust band of Velcro around the opening. It secures so tightly that a shrew can't even squeeze in. The other Ursacks utilize a cinch cord at the opening which works for big critters, but mice and shrews can easily squeeze through.

Background
I've been using the Critter Sack for at least six years. If bears are a potential concern, I don't carry the Critter Sack but hang my food in a dyneema bag.
