Tubbs Couloir Series
The Couloir Series has been discontinued. It was replaced by the Tubbs Mountaineer.
great snowshoe, not clumsy like older shoes. sticks to the snow going up or down steep slopes and binding doesn't seem to get loose and feet rotate like some other shoes. nice to have multi crampon edges also.
rear strap seems less than beefy and i worry about if it will break. great binding system, very easy to put on/off. rear clamp doesn't have positive "click" and sometimes works loose. only thing i would like on it is spring to keep it flat on foot. only sometimes not having this helped on uneven terrain and going over logs. levitator works great and has positive click and stays in place.
used for first time today in central washington cascades. snow 3-4 ft in places with crust and drift in places. couldn't be happier.

I go to the BWCA winter camping every year and I really like these shoes. Easy to put on, accommodate large boots (currently using Cabela's Inferno 2000 on the coldest days), light weight, and a positive hold.
A feature I really appreciate is the heel lift. It really reduces fatigue on the steep hills when pulling a pulk.
The previous review commented on a desire for a spring to keep the shoe tight to the bottom of the foot (like Atlas). I would have to disagree in that the dangle does a great job of not requiring me to lift a load of snow and flip it on my back.
I would recommend these to a friend and intend to walk them into the ground.

I have a pair of 36" Tubbs Couloir snowshoes that I have used for one season. The webbing that attaches the deck to the frame has broken and because it is a part of the deck Tubbs will not honor the warrantee.
I have had a pair of Sherpa snow shoes since 1984 and they finally broke in 2009. I replaced them with the Tubbs.
I am very disappointed in the quality and the company's response. For the money I had very high expectations. While the teeth and bidings are exceptional, the decking material is brittle.
