As I am always on the lookout for clothes that can do double duty I was pleased when I got the chance to test a pair of Cache Cargo pants by Toad&Co during a recent trip to India. Knowing I would need pants that could stand up to hiking, walking around town, and would still be nice enough to wear to restaurants the Cache Cargos seemed to fill the bill.
Constructed of organic cotton and recycled polyester with just a small amount of spandex, the cargo pants have the look and feel of a medium weight canvas with a little bit of stretch and are UPF 50+ rated. Four standard pockets are supplemented with a pair of leg pockets, the left with a security zipper and the right open at the top.
Traveling in a country teeming with people, the zippered pocket worked great for my wallet and the right pocket was a perfect fit for my Android phone.
Whether I was hiking through the mountains of Northern India, sitting on a train, or walking through 3000-year-old caves the Cache Cargo pants were super comfortable. That little bit of spandex went a long way in providing that comfort. A pair in 33-inch waist with a 30-inch inseam fit me perfectly.
The soft fabric in a light tan color held up great and in 22 days of use I only needed them laundered once. After returning home and a good washing they still looked like new. While the fabric won't hold a crease, the benefit of that is they also don't wrinkle easily which allowed me to wear them for days. The fabric is tough enough to move through brush without tearing yet was butter soft on my skin.
India is a very conservative country so I wore pants in temperatures that at home I might have worn shorts. The medium weight of the pants worked really well in the spring/fall temperatures I encountered. I haven't worn them in temperatures in the 90's but they were comfortable in the 80's.
Toad&Co's warranty is first rate. If you don't get a compliment within three wearings or there is a defect of any kind, return them and they will make it right.
