The North Face Chilkat V 400 Waterproof Boots

photo: The North Face Chilkat V 400 Waterproof Boots winter boot

I had no problem paying a premium for what I thought would be a premium pair of North Face Chilkat winter boots. I am extremely disappointed in the quality of my boots and beyond frustrated with North Face’s warranty process and customer service. I took very good care of my winter boots and possibly wore them 10 times. In fact the soles look brand new!

However when I wore them for the first time this winter the plastic toe separated from the leather and large vertical and horizontal cracks developed on both sides of both boots. I read the North Face warranty process and filled out the online warranty form. I put my winter boots, the North Face warranty form, and a check for $50 per the warranty instructions in a box. I paid for the shipping and expected to hear from someone at North Face once my boots were received.

A couple weeks went by and when no one had the professional courtesy to contact me I took the initiative to contact North Face! I received a generic email response and never even heard from anyone in the warranty department. My boots were shipped back to me in the same exact shape they were in when I PAID to ship them to North Face. No one ever followed up with me from North Face. No one offered as much as a discount on a replacement pair of boots and North Face definitely did not stand by their quality guarantee!!

I have told friends, employees, family members, and even strangers about my experience. I’m no footwear expert but I do have a bachelor’s of science. I am going to say North Face purchased and manufactured these boots using defective rubber materials. I’m sure North Face charged their supplier back for all of the warranty claims but never did anything to compensate their customers. I will not buy a product from North Face and I strongly encourage anyone looking for a premium pair of winter boots to consider Sorel! North Face definitely lost my business.

Pros

  • North Face returned my $50 check!

Cons

  • Poor quality boots
  • Poor materials used in the manufacturing process
  • Poor customer service
  • Poor follow up
  • North Face’s warranty process
  • Misleading warranty

Great looking boot

I have one last thing to add to this review. Take your time when considering purchasing a premium product. Consider your options wisely and definitely don’t buy substandard apparel from a substandard company like North Face!

I will keep my boots and put them in my office to show off to anyone and everyone. I’m going to give North Face my personal lifetime guarantee and tell everyone for my lifetime not to buy North Face product!!

Background

My experience with North Face is less than poor. I am very happy with my Sorel winter boots!! 😋

Straight up garbage. Boots fell apart instantly. Wife wore them not even five minutes and they came apart rubber cracked. Garbage.

Pros

  • No pros to mention, garbage

Cons

  • They're just junk. And TNF will not back their products. 1 or 2 pairs with defects here and there not an issue. I've read and seen endless pairs of boots that did the same thing, came apart. They're looking into the issue, but they blame the customer. Can't and won't honor what they sell.

They are garbage—not even worth the money spent and the service you get when an issue arises is the customer's fault, and though stored properly in a dry environment The North Face claims moisture got to them so it is not their fault.

On the tongue of the boots it says waterproof and the ankles are rubber. Last I checked water does not affect rubber. Why on this earth would you buy winter boots that cannot withstand moisture for that price when you live in the Northern Rockies? Why then the company says they were damaged due to customers' fault and wear and tear; yet they were not even worn a full day. Made for winter wear in Las Vegas, winter boots, yet they can't withstand for 150 dollars.

Winter boots that can't get moist and The North Face will then tell you how great and then run. Lost us forever. I used to swear by North Face gear. Spineless and should be a lawsuit. I counted over 100 of the same complaints, and not once did I see where the customer was taken care of, only blamed.

Well I have no idea how you sleep. Obvious issues with product, that tells me a lot about what kinda show you're ripping people off intentionally. If not you would be solving the issue instead of blaming customers and running.

Who keeps in business idk. I do know that's exactly the same actions of a crook. Otherwise it would be taken care of. Not one good thing do I have to say about North Face again. Low deal straight up dirty. If I'm outta pocket then prove it. At least honor your boots and they keep you in business. Never again, not a penny, thank you the 150 dollar box of junk.

Background

I'm a hunter as well as very active in many winter outdoor sports and activities. I've seen better products and service thru Walmart and I cannot stand Walmart, but I will say they back their products if faulty—no issue they will make it right. TNF however high end so claimed, they turn tail and blame the customer.
