The Crafty Weka Bar The Original
A tasty go-to for a long lasting energy boost that falls nicely on the stomach.
Pros
- Tasty
- Easily digested
- 2 servings per bar
Cons
- Cost—a little pricier than most energy bars, but you do get two servings
I have been searching for an energy snack bar that doesn't trigger my IBS and this is the only one that works for me. It is tasty and dense so you are chewing for a bit but the flavor is nice and refreshingly honest.
I usually eat half a bar at lunch time (1 p.m.) and feel the results relatively quickly and it lasts until I get home (6 p.m.) for dinner. I do recommend you try it if you are dealing with stomach issues as it might be a go-to for you as well.
Background
I tried it on a whim and it is now a go-to for me on a daily basis. One bar lasts me for two days (serving size half a bar).

Energy in a 75-gram bar that tastes great.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Tasty
- Fast and slow release energy
- Healthy ingredients
Cons
- Individual cardboard packing (recyclable)
- Limited distribution
- Cost
I have been given some of these energy bars to try and to review with no pressure to give a good review. This is a new start-up business in Christchurch, New Zealand.
I have carried these on both day walks and on a multi-day hike and found the following:
They are a tasty bar with loads of nuts and seeds in a syrup base, which I suspect is honey, slightly chewy with a crunch. The label says they have:
- energy 1860 kj
- protein 8.1 g
- fats 18.7 g
- carbs 30.4 g, sugars 22.0 g and
- sodium 15 g;
- weight is 75 g and it is in a cellophane wrapper.
On a day walk I found that just one bar was sufficient for a midday snack and the energy was sustained until about 4 p.m. when the munchies set in, so weight-for-weight with other snack bars was good, as with other brands two or three were required for the same energy output. For the multi-day trek in alpine cool weather two were better.
As energy bars go these are at the top end for performance for both usability and taste, and if the cardboard packaging is discarded before the start minimal rubbish is left to pack out, and weight-for-weight they outperform the competition. The cost is a little more than the mass produced competition however as fewer are required per day, that canceled out the outlay.
These bars are available currently only in New Zealand, but they tell me negotiations are being made to find a U.S. distributor.
Background
50 years on the trail worldwide eating a large variety of foods give one a good idea of what is acceptable and nutritious. Yes, these bars are definitely a goer in my food bag. They travel well and have a reasonable shelf life.

This bar is great for a snack on the go, and can even replace breakfast! It keeps me full for hours. It's also great to put in smoothies. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a clean, NZ-made snack bar.
Pros
- Compostable packaging!
- Tastes amazing
- Only natural sugars
- Made in New Zealand
Cons
- Contains gluten and peanuts, so not suitable for everyone to eat which is a shame because they are delicious!
These bars taste incredible and the taste and texture varies depending on what flavour you get! Currently my favourite is date and orange.
No prep required, just buy with your groceries and you're good to go. Easy to chuck in a backpack for long walks or bike rides.
This bar satisfies my hunger and taste buds! I'll stay full for a couple of hours at least. This is great for when I'm on the go and to busy to stop for a meal.
The packaging is pleasing to the eye and sustainable—good enough for me!
I would literally recommend this bar to anyone—school kids, the work force, and athletes come to mind!
