Terramar SmartSilk Tights

rated 4 of 5 stars
photo: Terramar SmartSilk Tights base layer bottom

Initial Review: These base layer bottoms are a very good skin tight fit, without the feel of compression. Waistline is a little weird, the inner elastic can fold inside the outer. I found the product to have begun pilling before the first wash...? Overall durability is a concern. If they last, I will happily rate this product to at least four stars.

Medium is a great fit for slim built 5'10" 155lbs.

Pros

  • Very comfortable fit
  • Not too warm
  • Great warmth to thickness

Cons

  • Early pilling
  • Waistband needs TLC
  • Ankle cuffs not stretchy/tight getting on/off

I recently received this base layer as a giveaway, THANK YOU, Trailspace!!! This is an initial review...

I find this base layer extremely comfortable. They are lightweight, stretchy, and wick very well. They fit skin tight, however to not provide compression. They are thin as well, I plan on easily wearing these under a more loose fitting base layer in very cold weather.

There isn't much stretch with the ankle cuffs, one has to be careful putting them on and taking them off without the risk of ripping. There is a two layer waistband that I'm a little concerned with; the inner band can fold inside the outer, which requires adjustment. Without doing so, I could only imagine instant discomfort. No drawcords, a plus in my opinion for a base layer.

I find these very breathable, and also wick well. I'm very happy with the weight-to-warmth ratio, but these tights were not designed as a stand-alone base layer for very cold weather. I find them not restrictive, making them ideal for layering/no binding. These bottoms appear well made, however they have already begun to pill. Not necessarily a minus, but I've never experienced this BEFORE THE FIRST WASH. I would definitely be concerned if I bought these at $60 MSRP.

I have only used these in regular winter use, and day hiking, but fully expect them to perform well on a backpacking/winter sports trip. These tights may very well deserve four stars, but I have to give them a couple seasons of use before I can accurately report durability.

Worth every penny. They feel fantastic, not too tight, with just enough stretch. These will definitely keep you warm. I have used them for skiing and they have been super comfortable.

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Keeps you warm

Cons

  • None so far

I bought these tights for a recent trip skiing and was very pleased with the overall comfort.  There is enough stretch to wear under pants.
