TAD Stealth Hoodie

This review is for the last incarnation of the Stealth Hoodie (before the LT variation), which is the late 2010 model. The fact that I need to specify the version is interesting in itself — TAD is constantly making upgrades to their gear, based on input from users. This is great in that their products are constantly improving, even if only incrementally.

The Stealth is an impressive piece of kit. It's compact and lightweight, yet provides excellent wind/cold/rain protection. While not technically waterproof, I've worn mine out in extended rain, and had no leakage issues.

Given enough time in a hard enough rain, I'm sure it'll pass water — but for those surprise or intermittent showers, it's more than enough. While it does a good job of keeping you warm, it also does a good job of not overheating you.

Between the pit zips and high-tech outer shell, it's easy to regulate your temperature. I also love the fact that you can roll up the hood and store it away. Most of the time I leave it out, but rolling it up provides a bit more wind protection for your neck if it's cold and windy out.

One of the signature features of the Stealth is the plethora of pockets. It's amazing the amount of stuff you can stow away in the jacket! The details are what make it, though — zipper garages, earphone pass-through ports, double-entry rear hunter pocket, etc. Something I thought I'd never use is the small pocket on the left sleeve; I've found, however, that it's the perfect spot to store dope cards during long-range rifle competitions.

I did have one small issue with my jacket, and that was a stubborn main zipper. I contacted customer service, who took the jacket in without issue. Turns out it just needed a bit of lube and some breaking in — it's now fine. Turnaround was quick, and the folks I spoke with were all helpful and friendly.

In a nutshell, I love the Stealth. It's very versatile — it can be worn in a large temperature range, and looks equally at home at the range and out at a nice dinner. The biggest issue you're likely to have is deciding on a color...

Both the Ranger Hoodie and Stealth Jacket by TAD are tough quality products. Several of us instructors @ the USAF survival school take these jackets to the WA mountains for 100+ days a year and beat the hell out of them.

I've had both products for almost 3 years and they are in perfect condition, minus the blood stains.

If you're looking for a well made product these jackets are worth the money!

The Triple Aught Design Stealth Hoodie LT is a dynamite jacket from a company that’s clearly serious about its gear.

Triple Aught builds the Stealth Hoodie LT out of Schoeller softshell fabric. It’s lightweight, flexible (not stiff like some lesser-quality fabrics), both wind and waterproof, and breathable. I found the jacket performed well in a variety of conditions, in the mountains, on the stream and around town.

In addition, the Stealth Hoodie LT boasts a range of features that make it extremely versatile. This jacket bristles with pockets. Pockets on the sleeves, pockets on the torso, pockets on the back, there are even pockets within pockets.

By my count, there are no fewer than nine that cover the Stealth Hoodie LT. The torso pockets are placed to not interfere with a pack belt and do double duty as part of the jacket’s ventilation system. There’s also a pass-through port in the right torso pocket for your headphones, nice detail. The jacket does seem to be missing an interior pocket, but that’s only a minor criticism at this point.
