When I think of this knife, my knife I think of the following: reliable, quality construction, consistent performance, superior value. This is the single kinfe i've recommended most and i equally recommend it to you. Best uses for me have been camping and hiking, meal preparation and fishing, and miscellaneous uses.

Pros

  • Value
  • Special Aus-8
  • Design
  • Handle

Cons

  • Could be a tiny wee bit bigger
  • Doesnt have tang to stick out on bottom

In my lifetime i've owned may knives from folders to fixed. I can honestly say, without a shadow of a doubt, this has got to be the best knife i've ever had and i'll tell you why.

HANDLE/GRIP- this thing won't slide out of your hand even if you have fluids all over it and you can't beat the functionality of glass reinforced nylon.

AESTHETICS- this things looks racy without being aggressive and superior styling makes it look elegant even dignified.

BANG FOR THE BUCK- i got mine for 60 on ebay.

PERFORMANCE- the thick and hearty Aus 8 steel that's cryogenically treated really gives it an oomph, normal Aus 8 steels don't compare to this in terms of performance: prying, chopping, slicing, cutting.

RELIABILTY- after two years it's still going strong. hasn't chipped once, hasn't corroded (thank you TiNi coating)

HOLDs EDGE FOREVER- becasuse it's a stainless steel you don't need to sharpen it as much as a carbon steel and you especially dont need to sharpen it as much because of the cryo treatment. this knife does not have the best steel in the business like ZDP-189 or what have you but for the function it's meant to do and for the price and value it doesnt get much better than this.

Sure you can spend upwards of 150, 200, or even 300 for premium knives with rare steels and unique design but proportionally speaking you won't get a better knife than this one, trust me, i've done my homework. do yourself a favor and stop researching and buy this lil gem of a knife. oh and PS get the one with notches on the back, it's a lifesaver ;)

PPS did i mention its full tang?

I will start by saying this is the best knife I have ever purchased. I have owned many knives and this one tops them all when it comes down to versatility. I have used this knife for everything from cutting wood to killing a stubborn charging wild hog that wouldn't go down after many shots with a 22 cal while squirrel hunting.

I was going between this one and the Gerber LMF (another great knive that my brother showed me after using it in Afghanistan). The things I liked more about this knife is that it was a lot lighter weight for backpacking and hiking, had a better stabbing point (in case you run in to something that has to be taken down such as a hog), and the LMF was hard to get out of the sheath if you had to do it quickly even when it was strapped to my leg (it might have loosened up after a while but I didn't like it).

The only question i had about it was the handle material, it almost seamed plastic but this isn't true. I think i read it was made of a fiberglass nylon or something weird, whatever it is, it can take a beating.

I think i bought it at Bass Pro Shop for 60 dollars.

I got my Seal Pup as a gift from my grandfather during my military service. This is more than just a knife. Firstly it comes with a razor sharp edge out of the box which is always something I like, maintaining an edge rather than having to sharpen a new knife from scratch.

It cuts just about anything and the tip will stab through a hardwood door without losing any of its shape but the blade's strength means this beast also functions as a prying, bashing, hammering, everything else tool. It's just always good to keep around for all sorts of situations.

My two gripes are that it did tend to loose its edge faster than some other knives I've had when I was using it a lot (since I've finished my service I don't really carry it around anymore) and that the non-reflective coating comes off fairly quickly from nothing more than sheath-wear.

I will not be buying another one as I've had this one for 5 years now and it's still going strong.
