Smartwool Shadow Hoody

This is my favorite outdoor shirt. I am blessed with some great outdoor wear, but this takes the cake. I have done everything in this shirt, from trail running in snowy conditions as a base layer to sitting on a boulder waiting for the winter trout to bite. It is so versatile and stink-proof.

The Smartwool Shadow Hoody is essentially a Smartwool Zip-T with a hood and cuff thumb holes. The fabric weight is 195g. My size med/large weighs 12.0 ounces on my scale.

With a hoody, I don't have to go looking for a light hat when the mercury plummets- the hood is always there . Besides providing warmth, the hood keeps the bugs off me, and in the winter it keeps snow from going down my neck.

I love having the cuff thumb holes. They provide a lot of warmth without a loss in dexterity. I like how they fold back and under the sleeve.

Smartwool doesn't make this piece anymore, but you can get a similar one for your wife or girlfriend. They still have a women's hoody available. I hope my Shadow never wears out
