The Silva Ranger Type 15 base plate compass was my first purchase in 1990 and has never disappointed me in the field. Sturdy and accurate, it has provided me with many years of precision map and compass navigation and is as accurate an instrument today as the day I purchased it more than 30 years ago.

I have noticed that a few of today's high end compasses, such as the Silva 15TDCL Expedition and the Brunton 8099 Pro Eclipse, are equipped with levels. Great feature, but while the Type 15 lacks this feature, it does have a clinometer that, if necessary, can offer the same function as a level.

With good navigation skills and a map the Silva Ranger Type 15 compass is all the precision instrument you need.
