Sunrise Chef!

One of the main things I am concerned with in the outdoors is hypothermia. A couple of years ago I had a close call. The down I brought wetted out and I found that polyfill and fleece items saved my bacon.

So I searched for an update to a mid layer jacket I bought 40 years ago. It works fine still, but I thought newer materials would be a bit lighter and more efficient. I found this Sherpa Annapurna Hooded Jacket on sale at the local outdoor discount outlet and after looking at several other comparable jackets, picked it up.

Well designed. Good celly pocket.

After about a year wearing it on various trips and situations I am satisfied it’s the real deal. I haven’t compared it directly with say a Patagonia Nano Puff,, but so far the Sherpa has performed well in every situation.

Very well made with excellent materials. Made in Nepal.

Trips:  In the Sawtooths I faceplanted in the creek and immediately donned this jacket to ward off hypothermia. Continued down the trail comfy. Snow Cave where I wore in my sleeping bag. The jacket got damp in a few places but never lost warmth. And I was outdoors all day long and I was warm enough. Ski trip last week. Over a couple lighter fleece layers and under a shell, I was out all day in 25-35° weather and was too warm most of the time, even just relaxing. In the evening a breeze came blowing up the canyon sending the temps to lower 20s and even without the shell it was wind resistant, I stayed warm. On several campouts and backpacks the temperature unexpectedly went into the 20s and the Sherpa kept me warm enough. On various winter hikes and exercise, as expected I perspired and the underlayers were moist, but the Sherpa kept me warm enough.

Soft pocket

The inner pockets are handy. I really like sliding the hood over my head to keep my head and neck warm. I have a slim build and this fits like a glove over medium weight fleece layer. Some folks might need a little more room.

Thinsulate Details. Good stuff, eh?

Sherpa Adventure Gear is a Nepalese-owned company and they work to improve conditions in that country. The quality of design, materials, and manufacture is excellent.
