In my quest for the perfect shoes, I tried these. From the start I really liked them. I kind of felt like I never wanted to take them off!
They feel wonderful right out of the box. The insoles are soft and comfortable but provide no support. I did swap them out for Superfeet insoles right away. I don't feel that they provide adequate arch support on their own. On my first hike, they felt really good. I had good traction on granite and rocks. They did slide around some on wet rocks, but I have yet to find anything that works on those conditions.
They are not waterproof, so expect your feet to get wet, but they did dry overnight which I thought was a reasonable time. I double knot my laces and still found that they loosened themselves over time and needed to be tightened and re-tied. I wear Dirty Girl gaiters with them, but without them the low ankle cut is going to leave you with a shoe full of pine needles for sure.
I have about 400 miles on them now and they still feel pretty good. The cushion in the midsole is packing down some now, but not to the point where I need to replace them. Traction is still excellent and my feet are still very happy in them. My feet do feel a bit warm in them but overall the ventilation is great.
I can't say for sure that these are the shoes for me, but they are the closest I have come to the perfect ones for my feet!
