Ruffwear Polar Trex

photo: Ruffwear Polar Trex dog bootie

On paper these boots look like they're well designed and should stay on the dog's feet come what may. I just "road tested" our new set of Polar-Trex today and found out this is far from the truth.

When fitting the boots I was very careful to make sure that the dog's foot was pushed all the way into the boot and that the upper and lower fitting straps were pulled tight to ensure a snug fit. We walked all of about 30 - 45 seconds down the (clean) sidewalk before the first boot fell off. Both straps were still pulled tight so it wasn't as though one or both of the straps came undone.

I put the shoe back on the dog and re-adjusted the other 3 to make sure all were fit correctly and wouldn't come off. During the process of playing frisbee in the park boots came off two more times and one other time I noticed that a boot was almost off and caught it just in time.

This is completely unacceptable. These things can't even stay on when walking down clean sidewalks so there's no way you can trust 'em to stay on during the course of a snow-shoeing trip or a romp in deep snow.

For a boot as expensive as these ones are they sure don't live up up to the hype. I am totally disappointed in this product and will be taking them back to the store I bought them at to get a refund.

I notice that the customer reviews on the REI website all say pretty much the same thing as I'm saying. They just don't stay on like they should. Two thumbs down.
