REI Quarter Dome SL 2

rated 4.0 of 5 stars
photo: REI Quarter Dome SL 2 three-season tent

Preview looks promising.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • 2 vestibules
  • Lots of tie-off points
  • Top vent

Cons

  • Needs lots of stakes
  • Thin material
  • Semi-freestanding

Just received this tent so I have yet to use it but my initial thoughts are good. Setup was fairly straightforward so no problems there. The rain-fly was a tight fit however. I really had to stretch it to make the connections.

It's quite spacious inside, although I am 6'2" and I think it might be tight with a bag and pillow. If you are taller I wouldn't recommend it. As usual, it's gonna be pretty cozy for two people. Seams look sufficiently taped. The material itself is rather thin (ripstop nylon), as it's a lightweight tent, but feels very rubbery and forgiving so I think it should hold up.

I did grab the footprint for it, but I highly recommend a ground cloth of some kind. Poles are aluminium, color-coded, and hubbed so there's no confusion as to where they connect. Overall it's a promising tent that I look forward to using.
