Red Ledge Parka
The Parka has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best waterproof jackets for 2025.
I had to grab an inexpensive jacket for a ski trip and found the Red Ledge Parka on sale for $150. I don't ski much so I can't comment on its attributes for the snow skier. I did have backpacking in mind, and for that it has performed very well. I was amazed at the TH4 membrane. It is very waterproof and breathable. It is a little bulky and heavy for the weight conscious, and access to the chest pockets is a little awkward, but dollar for dollar this is one fine shell jacket.
Fabric: Nylon ripstop/ taslan/ TH4
Price Paid: $149 - on sale
This parka is an exellent value. it has all of the features of tnf's mountain light but for a fraction of the cost. i've had mine for maybe 250 miles. what can i say, it keeps me dry. the only proplem that i have encountered is that the factory coating (aside from the PTFE laminate) isn't very good. this problem was easily fixed with some nikwax spray.
Fabric: talsan nylon with th4 (poor man's goretex)
Price Paid: $120
I was kind of nervous because it was so cheap, but it works really well. It has all of the features of a $400 North Face, at less than half of the price. The TH4 membrane works perfectly, and it is very breathable.
Fabric: TH4 (about the same as Gore-Tex) and ripstop Taslan
Price Paid: $160 (great deal)
