For a dog that doesn't conform to "normal" sizes/proportions, this coat does the trick.
Pros
- Adjustable
- Water resistant
- Works well with harness underneath it
- Machine washable
- Lightweight
- Great visibility
- Warm
Cons
- Velcro strap tip hangs down
- Concerns about durability
This coat offers adjustability for a small dog with a huge rib cage. It's hard to find a coat that fits this dog! I use this as a winter coat for my short-haired warm weather loving pup. I do not use it as a rain coat.
Ease of Use & Features:
This is a straightforward coat. It attaches itself using two large Velcro straps and has a small zippered opening at the base of the neck so a leash can be attached to a harness underneath the coat. The water resistant shell is awesome for keeping the coat (and dog) dry and the fleece lining keeps your pup warm.
The 3M reflective strips are really, really bright, which is great for night hiking or nighttime walks around the neighborhood.
Construction & Durability:
From what I can tell RC Pets is not an "outdoor gear" dog brand. It seems to be more of an everyday dog outfitter. I got this coat as a gift for my dog, and because I have tried to find reasonably priced coats that fit my dog in the past (and failed) I am happy with its performance.
I worry about the durability of the coat (because I do not think it is meant for off-leash sprinting through woods), only time will tell how well it wears - so far so good. The Velcro chest strap can hang down a bit, which can cause it to gather snow, not ideal for the integrity of the Velcro bond.
This dog loves to roll in poop—it is great that this coast is machine washable!!!
Background
My dog has been wearing this coat for three months, and it works well. It is used for on-leash walks, and off-leash hiking in the winter. I do not use this as a rain coat.
