Rab Interval Tee
Ultralight (half the weight of a typical cotton t-shirt), highly breathable, comfortable, wicking material...keeps you cool and dry on very hot days or when you are running, training, or working hard. Dries in a flash, looks great, doesn't smell, moves with your body, and saves a lot of weight in your pack.
Pros
- Ultralight...the average weight for a Medium is just 80g (2.82oz).
- Keeps you cool, dry, and comfortable on hot days.
- The flat seams prevent chafing and the material feels smooth on your skin.
- Pack down very small, saving you space in your pack.
Cons
- Expensive
- Limited range of colours
I have three Rab Interval Tees—one in "Ebony", one in "Ink", and one in "Evergreen", all in Medium, which is the perfect size for me. Their weights vary...one is 79g, one is 80g and the other is 81g, so the average weight seems to be around 80g...Which is pretty much exactly half the weight of a cotton T-Shirt.
The material feels strong and slightly stretchy. I would describe the fit as 'body hugging', which is very comfortable for me, but may not be very flattering for middle aged men carrying excess weight on their lower torso say. If you want to hide the flab, go for a size larger at least.
I took them with me on a holiday to Croatia, in August, where the temperature ranged from 36°C up to 40°C and I never once felt too hot, or even sweaty, because any sweat is instantly wicked away to the rest of the material where it rapidly evaporated leaving you feeling cool and dry, but to be fair, I always use a spray-on antiperspirant/deodorant in the morning before wearing one, which obviously helps.
The 'Polygiene', Silver-based, anti-bac coating keeps odours away, so even after a day of walking around in the heat of the day I could detect no smell by the evening. But just in case, I only wore each shirt for one day before putting it in my laundry bag. At home, in a more temperate climate, I can wear one for several days on the trot with no appreciable whiff building up, but again, if you always use a spray-on antiperspirant/deodorant in the morning before wearing one, obviously it will greatly extend how long you can wear one before any odors become noticeable. I simply don't sweat enough in one for any odours to build up. I don't know how long the Polygiene treatment lasts, or if it eventually washes off after a while but if it is anything like Rohan Tech Tee's, which have a similar Silver based anti-bac treatment, then it should last for the life of the shirt.
Rab claims the Interval Tee has an SPF of 35+, which is more than double the sun protection offered by similar ultralight "technical Tee" Shirts, making it an even better value.
