Princeton Tec Torrent LED

rated 0.5 of 5 stars
photo: Princeton Tec Torrent LED flashlight

This light, while moderately bright for an LED dive-capable unit, is plagued by engineering and manufacturing faults.

Pros

  • Compact
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons

  • Requires 8 batteries
  • "Locking" switch poorly designed
  • Unknown, random failures make this unreliable when needed
  • Lifetime warranty required for this product.

On my 3rd Torrent LED, all due to failures and subsequent replacement. I cannot do a full review here, because the light, in my opinion, is unworthy of any use. My demands are the following:

Holds battery life when off;

Switch(s) positive, easy to use gloved or bare-hand;

Beam strong, focused;

Circuit efficient, conserves battery power;

Compact design.

This light has failed at SCUBA, kayaking, bicycling, and walking the dog. Returns are easy, but one return was a dead new unit, so actually, I have had 4 of these. Princeton Tec has been getting worse, in both build quality and customer service. No more for me.

I have owned or do own a 400, 2 different model LED headlamps + Matrix2, strobe, 2 Impacts, and 2 Eco-Flares. Nearly all have had to be returned and exchanged for working models.  This during a period of 20+ years, depending on model. Horrible reliability.
