Primus Designs an Everyday Essential Trail Stove for All

Primus designed its Essential Trail Stove for outdoor beginners who might be new to stoves, but it's also an option for experienced backcountry chefs who want a powerful and lightweight second burner.

The easy-to-use Essential Trail Stove has no folding parts, so it is always ready to go. The compact and lightweight (4 ounces) unit just needs to be screwed onto a gas canister and fired up to enjoy a hot meal or beverage outdoors. "We wanted to offer an intuitive yet powerful cooking option," says Primus.

Thanks to an updated pressure-regulated valve, the Essential Trail Stove promises consistent cooking power at any temperature or altitude. It can be used year-round with the right fuel blend. A three-season fuel like Primus Power Gas is the most versatile down to 0°C/32°F, while Primus Summer Gas offers maximum fuel efficiency in hot conditions up to 40°C/104°F and Primus Winter Gas works down to -22°C/-7°F.

"We are always looking to improve upon our products," says Primus. "The newest control valve has a fair amount of minor changes—measurements, material choices, and design—that all together result in a much smoother fuel control."

The patented Laminar Flow Burner Technology gives the stove a lower center of gravity, making it more stable, lighter, and more compact. Wondering what "Laminar Flow Technology" even means? As Primus explains, "Laminar Flow Technology changes the way the burner mixes air and fuel, updating to a luminary way instead of turbulence. This change allows the burner to sit closer to the top of the fuel canister, and in turn get a more compact and stable product. As an additional benefit, this new way of mixing fuel and air creates a quieter burner."

Additionally, the wind-blocking pot supports protect the flame in windy conditions and can hold a variety of pot sizes, from a single-person cooking mug up to a 2.3-liter pot for a small group.
