Pivetta Eiger Leather Hikers

rated 5.0 of 5 stars

Pivetta is no longer in business, and the Eiger Leather Hikers has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best backpacking boots for 2024.

I purchased my PIVETTA EIGER boots in the early 1970s by mail order from the SKI HUT in Berkley, Cal. I learned of these boots from the book "The Complete Walker" by Colin Fletcher. I still have and wear these boots over 35 years later. They have been re-soled twice. I never wear them on cement or asphalt, trail only.

These boots are the best in the world! I have AA narrow feet, and these offer total ankle support on rough mountain trails. Thru the years I also have owned Danners, Lowa, Garmont, Merrel, Vasque/Voyaguer and Whites. None have held up like the original PIVETTAS, except the WHITES Smoke Jumpers (but they are work boots, not hiking boots.

Much of my old gear still in use, I also found in the original Whole Earth Catalog, (including buck 110 knife, Sierra Designs tent, Holubar goosedown clothing, and others....they were right on!
