Packit Gourmet Mango-Kale Jump-Start Smoothie

Despite ALL of the rest of their products being THE BEST, this one's a swing and a miss.

I FINALLY FOUND IT!!! A Packit Gourmet product that I don't love...

Just gotta say that I really miss the "Eat a Peach Fruit Smoothie". The berry and tropical are BOTH GREAT, but that peach smoothie was my favorite. One of these fruit smoothies, a Clif bar (or equivalent), and a cup of coffee in the morning and I'm ready for the trail.  

And now, as the late, great Paul Harvey would say, the rest of the story...

Having had such fantastic foods from Packit Gourmet so far and LOVING the smoothies as much as I have, I put my trust in them and, despite my reservations to the contrary, ordered the Mango-Kale smoothie. Now, I realize that kale is the big thing right now and is showing up in everything and, like most fads, will continue to show up in everything for about 18 months before disappearing back into the obscurity it so happily enjoyed since the first time Man originally spat it back out, but I figure that if Packit Gourmet was putting it in a smoothie, I'd better try it...and I did.

I have to say that, despite its appearance, it didn't smell horrible. So I drank it. As soon as it touched my tongue, I knew that if I stopped drinking it or even slowed down I'd never finish it, so drink it all at once I did. Good thing, too as I really wouldn't have started again if I'd stopped midway.

My backpacking buddy looked at me as I shook off the shock and asked me how it was. I didn't tell him. I just told him that he really needed to commit himself to finishing his once he started. He did. Funny thing is, he didn't thank me for my sound advice...he finished the drink and threw his squishy bowl at me...empty, thankfully. 

So, on my decidedly unscientific survey that's two thumbs down on the Mango-Kale smoothies. Hey, I guess you can't win them all and since literally everything else that I've tried from Packit Gourmet has been over-the-top good (actually, over-the-top GREAT) I still have no problem recommending Packit Gourmet products to every backpacker I meet. Which, by the way, I do.
