Packit Gourmet Good Day Sunshine Bowl
Oatmeal again???
Pros
- Super delicious
- Easy to prepare
- Nice balance of nutrition
- Very interesting texture
Cons
- Maybe a bit pricey for oatmeal.
I realize that it seems like I review food here a lot. Okay, one of the reasons I hike is to justify the food I eat. Having been a long time fan of Packit Gourmet, I was eager to try this breakfast option. A quick trip to Lassen Volcanic NP was a great excuse.
I like my oatmeal to be kind of busy, and the Good Day Sunshine Bowl did not disappoint. Aside from rolled and steel-cut oats, this cereal includes mangos, currants, cranberries, pecans, almonds, coconut, quinoa, chia, pumpkin seeds and much more. With 550 calories, and 77 g of carbs, this will fuel a good long morning on the trail. With a whopping 9g of fiber, it will keep you body regular!
The taste is great...sweet, but not too sweet, and the texture is interesting with so much stuff enhancing the oats. With 11g of protein, I found it held me for a few hours in the morning before I needed a snack. Prep is super easy. Just add 6 oz of boiling water, wait ten minutes, and it's eatin' time.
Packit Gourmet has recently changed their packaging. Their "cook in bags" are now shorter and a little wider, so it's not such a chore to eat out of the pouch. Par for the course for these breakfast things, $5.50 might seem a little high to pay for oatmeal. But this delicious meal will give you a great start to your morning. Oatmeal again??? Definitely, yes!
