Number One Shoes Cross Trekkers Polver
These are a budget line of shoes from No 1 Shoes in New Zealand. Bought as an emergency replacement for expensive trail shoes. These have proved to be absolutely amazing value for the price and better quality than I ever expected
Pros
- Really low cost
- Excellent quality
- Comfortable straight from the box
- Excellent grip on wet or dry tracks
- Breathable and quick drying
Cons
- Laces a wee bit short
These were bought by default after two pairs of expensive shoes crapped out within weeks of purchase. I just went to the nearest town center and on a strict budget bought these shoes to finish a long trail. They cost $50 NZ and I was not expecting much from them.
What a surprise they are really good, they are comfortable, have excellent grip in both wet and dry conditions, breath well and being all artificial material construction dry quickly. I really like the gillie lace system as it allows for a very precise fit especially when the weather is hot and feet swell.
Not only did I do my last 100K of my long trail but I have used them extensively since both hiking and trout fishing and they have now done almost 1000K of track and trail; wear is minimal. The sole lugs were 5 mm and still the outer rim is unchanged the center studs have worn just 1 mm. The tops scrub up and look almost brand new.
Next on the list is a canyon trip with a lot of water to walk through. I feel very confident that the "Polver" shoes will be able to cope with no problems.
People talk of Chinese crap, but these go to prove that not only do they beat on price but have good design and quality too. I feel fairly sure that these shoes are only available in New Zealand but if you are down under and need a cheap pair of shoes have a good look at these!
