Malkoff Devices Hound Dog

rated 5.0 of 5 stars
photo: Malkoff Devices Hound Dog flashlight

Extremely bright light with two functions — 1,000+ lumens and 70+ lumens. Roughly two hours on high with two 18650 batteries. I have not tested the low output time, since we use this as a backyard "let the dogs out" light. However, this gear would be invaluable for a night search operation.

Highly recommended for those looking for a professional grade, rough use, super bright light. Not recommended for close work or enclosed areas.

Pros

  • Output
  • LED / longevity
  • Two user modes
  • Durable

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Expensive
  • Can cause eye damage
  • Short run time on high

I purchased this light several months ago to light up my entire backyard prior to letting my small dogs out (we have a local population of raccoons in the area who are not "cool" with small dogs).

Overall, the light has been impressive. Not only the output, but also the durable construction. In the following pictures, please note the stump. It's over 25 yards from the position of the camera (taken with a standard hand-held digital camera, no special effects or photo editing). According to the manufacturer, it can light up objects at out to 300+ yards.

In short, a very reliable device and a highly professional company to deal with.

In comparing this light to an ordinary 2 x D cell mag lite at 27 lumens, this light is off the chart bright.
