Everest Hiking Pack
Overall, this is a budget option and can carry about 30 lbs for several miles, but don't push the boundaries of the straps or bungees.
Pros
- Affordable
- Capacity
- Weight
Cons
- Straps/toggles
- Frame/weight support
The Everest Hiking Pack is a budget size hiking backpack I bought on an extremely low budget build-out for a hammock camping adventure. It's just over 2900 cu in capacity, but it doesn't have any frame to speak of except for a decent amount of padding for your back.
I've done 4+ mile hikes with it where I've had 30 lbs of gear in the pack itself (pretty much maxed out at that point) and carried a sleeping pad in the bungee portion on the external front of the pack. I like having the two side pockets to compartmentalize.
The zippers are large and sturdy, but the straps and bungees aren't the best. I haven't had a closure break on me yet, but they seem somewhat flimsy and are difficult to latch sometimes since they tend to skew. The bungee on the front of the pack has "popped" out of the toggle. I fixed it by feeding it back through and tying a knot, but still.
I should also mention it was fairly comfortable as far as weight distribution goes on a 4 mile hike in 90+degree weather in Florida, but it was at the limit of "comfortable."
Overall, this is a budget option and can carry about 30 lbs for several miles, but don't push the boundaries of the straps or bungees.
