Optimus Crux Lite with Terra Solo Cook System
I was looking at getting a small stove and cook set, rather than dragging my backpack stove out. This stove and cook set is perfect for day hikes or other day activities. I use this stove when I go fishing or on outing with the family. I definitely recommend this stove, and cook set.
Pros
- Fast boil time, right at a minute with a full pot.
- Packs up in itself.
- Very stable
Cons
- Butane cannister
- Bulky
The stove is extremely easy to set up. You have to use an external source to light the stove, so some may or may not like that. Flame control is good, I find that I have to open up the valve quite a bit to get it lit, but once lit flame control is good.
The cook set is a bit small to fry anything in the lid, but for heating water or warming anything up it is excellent. Boil time is about a minute at lower altitudes (3000') I've used this stove only once at 6000' and it was only slightly slower to boil a full pot (24 oz.)
The stove stays lit in windy conditions, and doesn't seem to affect cooking, no wind shield comes with it. Fuel efficiency seems to be standard with a Jetboil. Very stable when using the larger canister (which fits inside the main pot). I can't comment on the smaller canister.
Packability, it is a bit bulky, but it does all fit into itself, and comes with a storage sack.
This stove is extremely easy to use, sets up quickly. All features of this stove and cook set have worked without issues, very well put together. I've used this stove for over a year now, it goes with me when I go fishing, hunting and camping. I have not taken it backpacking as of yet.
