OOFOS OOmg Low Shoe

photo: OOFOS OOmg Low Shoe water shoe

A terrific water shoe that can double as a recovery camp shoe. Lightweight and doesn't absorb water.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Doesn't absorb water
  • Massages your feet while you walk
  • Good traction

Getting ready for a long-distance backpacking trip in the Sierra of California I knew I would need to bring along a shoe for the numerous water crossings I would encounter. Almost reading my mind I got an email from a marketing rep for Oofos with information about their new OOmg Low Shoe. This was the first foray from OOfos into a shoe like sandal. I instantly saw the potential for a combination of a camp shoe that would also be great for water crossings.

Unfortunately, they had not started making a men's version yet, would I be interested in a women's shoe for testing? Luckily for me, a men's size 9 equals a women's size 11 and I was good to go. The fact that they only weighed 14 ounces for the size 11 pair made them even more attractive. Oh, and the pair I would be getting would be Lime Green.

I said sure, at the very least I could use them to flag down emergency aircraft if I got lost, they are that bright.

Having several pairs of OOfos sandals I was already very acquainted with their OOfoam footbed technology. The OOfoam technology reduces stress on the feet and legs. They now were pairing that footbed with a 4-way stretch mesh top to build a lightweight, ventilated shoe with added arch support.

I found the OOmg low shoe to work really well for water crossings. Traction was quite good and the mesh upper kept them secure on my feet in water that at times was moving really fast. The fact that the shoes did not absorb water was great, I could just hang them from my pack and they would be dry by the time I made camp.

Once in camp my trail runners and socks would come off and after a quick wash, my feet would be happy in the OOmg low shoe for the rest of the day. The shoes gently massage my arches as I walk around and the thick soles kept my feet safe from any sharp objects laying on the ground.

After 16 days I will be taking these OOmg Low shoes back on the trail in the future for sure. They may be bright but they are sure comfortable.
