Introduction
The Nitecore NU43 represents a revolutionary innovation in lighting technology, offering unparalleled features and performance. In this comprehensive review, we examine the key features and functionalities that set the NU43 apart from its competitors.
Design and Build Quality
One remarkable feature of the NU43 is its exceptional design and build quality. Precision-engineered, this headlamp offers a lightweight and compact construction, making it comfortable for extended use. The use of polycarbonate and aluminium alloy ensures durability, while the modern aesthetic adds a touch of sophistication.
Lightweight and Comfort
Weighing only 116g, the NU43 is an incredibly lightweight headlamp, making it ideal for extended use without causing strain on the neck. Its ergonomic design and adjustable headband ensure a perfect fit, while the hollow structure enhances comfort during prolonged wear. Additionally, the skin-friendly headband features reflective strips for increased visibility and safety in low-light conditions.
User Interface
Navigating through the features of the NU43 is a breeze, thanks to its intuitive user interface. With dedicated buttons for modes and power, users can easily switch between different lighting modes, including white, red, SOS, and beacon. The inclusion of a battery level indicator (4 Blue LEDs) adds to the convenience, allowing users to monitor remaining power with ease.
Impressive Luminous Output
Equipped with multiple brightness levels, the NU43 delivers impressive luminous output across various lighting modes. Whether navigating dark trails or reading maps in low-light conditions, this headlamp provides the perfect light for my eyes. With a maximum output of 1400 lumens, the NU43 ensures visibility even in the most demanding environments.
Battery Life and Recharging
The NU43 is powered by a built-in 3400mAh Li-ion 18650 battery, offering long-lasting performance on a single charge. With a runtime of up to 165 hours in ultra-low mode, this headlamp is a reliable companion for outdoor adventures and emergency situations. The USB-C rechargeable design ensures convenient charging, with a fast charging time of just 2 hours. I honestly can say, that charging is faster than this 2h data given by the official site !
Water and Shock Resistance
Designed to withstand the rigors of outdoor use, the NU43 is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance. Whether hiking in the rain or working in dusty environments, this headlamp remains operational, ensuring reliable performance when needed most. Additionally, with a 2-meter shock resistance, the NU43 can withstand drops and accidental impacts, further enhancing its durability.
My Experiences
I have used this headlamp at least 3 times a week, but more often 5 or even 7 times over the past 10 months. I really enjoyed the Silva headlamp that I tested proceeding this one , but my wife's head is very sensitive, so she has been using it since January. I don't mind because the Nitecore lamp suits me really well.
My latest experience was a couple of weeks ago (March 18, 2024) during the 108 km ultra event in St Jeannet (France), where I spent the entire night outdoors. I got about 7 hours of runtime at 600 lumens (4-8°C), then the last hour at 300 lumens before the battery discharged. I really like the type of light that the lamp provides to see the contrast of the terrain, but also the ability to recharge it on the go with USB-C if necessary from virtually any battery. Nitecore has also developed a new battery transport system that we can attach to the back of the headband, so there are no dangling wires. I experienced no irritation, headaches, or eye issues. Perfect. For the price of €53, I don't think there's anything better elsewhere.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Nitecore NU43 sets a new standard for headlamp performance, combining lightweight design, intuitive controls, and impressive lighting capabilities. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, a professional adventurer, or an emergency responder, the NU43 is the ultimate lighting companion for any situation. With its unparalleled features and unmatched reliability, the NU43 is truly in a class of its own.
I believe the actual battery life of Nitecore lamps is closer to 100/300/600 lumens -> 25/12/7h, which is different from what they propose but still very impressive.

I have been using headlamps for 3 decades, so yes I can say I have some experiences with all sort of lights and torches.
