photo: New Balance 910v2 trail running shoe

Been wearing New Balance my whole life for road running and when I switched to trail running the 910v2 didn't disappoint.

Pros

  • Fit
  • Comfort
  • Good lugs
  • Upper mesh

Cons

  • Not good for wet conditions
  • They trap wet mud, grass, and dirt

I've been using New Balance shoes my whole life for either running or walking, particularly because of the wide toe boxes their shoes have. So when I started trail running and hiking, it was a natural choice to go to a New Balance shoe, and they didn't disappoint.

My local running store sold them to me at a discounted price of $50 and it has turned out these are a boon. Great shoe, particularly the upper mesh. Exceptional quality and durability. I like the lugs, which are great on soft trails and scree.

But the shoes are not good for wet green, dirt, or muddy trails, as the stuff sticks to the shoes' bottoms like glue. The shoes just don't shed wet debris that well.

But luckily I am here in SoCal where, except for this year, it is pretty dry and the trails are usually hard or sandy. I hope New Balance doesn't replace these shoes anytime soon, so I will buy another pair just in case.
