NEMO Mezzo Loft

photo: NEMO Mezzo Loft 3-season synthetic sleeping bag

FINALLY, after 40 odd years I can sleep ON the pad instead of climbing back on repeatedly through the night.

Pros

  • Pad sleeve keeps the pad underneath me as I turn frequently
  • Very comfortable material next to the skin
  • Multitude of opening/closing options
  • Nice pillow pocket and key pocket
  • Can store pad IN the bag

Cons

  • Larger than my old down bag, and doesn't pack down as small. That's the ONLY downside I've found.

I'm a "mobile" sleeper and always have an issue with staying on my pads. I've tried everything, including some kind of tacky spray to keep my bags from slipping off the pads years ago. I've packed heavier pads just to get that pad wide enough to fall off of a little less. I looked at Big Agnes bags, but never saw one that I felt would be an upgrade from my old North Face down bag.

So, I wiggle and wriggle nightly to maneuver back onto my pad. Or, I did until I bought my NEMO! I can't fall off of this; the pad is ALWAYS underneath, where it's supposed to be! Also, the material is so comfortable in cool weather and warm so far. The way it zips up and down provides many options for adjusting comfort.

I don't have a NEMO pad, but my EXPED Downmat and my wider Klymit pad both work in this. Slide a piece of ensolite in also and pure luxury for sleeping. Pillow pocket works like no other, perfect for a small pillow and clothes to make you a nice, large pillow.

I cannot "sing" enough praises about this bag. It will work for most of my trips, but for really cold weather I will supplement it with my old North Face down bag. I sure wish they would have made this bag decades ago!
