Napier Backroadz SUV Tent
This was a very spacious tent, with room for 2-3 people, plus gear. Unfortunately, it is next to impossible for one person to set it up, particularly if that person is rather short. It also leaked in multiple places.
Pros
- It's roomy, and being able to attach it to my Toyota Highlander provided even more room for gear. In my case the tent held an oversized cot, a camp chair, a small table and a portable toilet, with room left over for a food tote and a duffel bag or two. A tall person would love the generous headroom as well.
Cons
- The tent was quite difficult to set up, even when a friend came to help. One of the fiberglass poles cracked when I finally got the last pole pinned down. It splintered when the wind picked up on the last day. An overnight rain revealed several leaks, including around the door, although, to be fair, the ground was too hard to properly guy out the rain fly. The tent has been used on only one camping trip, and is currently unusable due to the splintered section of pole.
While this tent was quite spacious for all of my car camping needs, the negatives outweigh the positives. The difficulty of setting it up, plus the leaking, PLUS the splintered pole after the second night equaled a big waste of money on my part.
Background
This was probably not the best choice for my first tent, but I loved the idea of being able to jump into the back of my SUV without leaving the tent if I needed to. I did watch several YouTube videos showing how to set it up before I purchased it, and again before using the tent.
