Lets see... how to start.

After 30+ yrs, still works like a top! Seems simple enough!

Has made many a meal and untold amount of hot drinks (coffee, cocoa, hot jello, hot tang, tea, soups,...)

When acquired, went for the "complete package" of stove, parts kits, bag, Sigg bottles (qt & pt), pot kit. (Used the pt fuel bottle for "end of a climb" to make crepe suzzettes and a few other things. Usually when someone I was working with did their first climb or first lead climb. Get to the top and have a treat to celebrate.)

The silly stove started in some of the worst locations and conditions. Good base prep is important. Suffered a few times when came to a boil and the stove started listing to starboard badly (need to be careful who is in charge of the stove, a watchful eye...).

Fuel consumption wasn't as good as the "Monster sized Phoebus" but made up in ease of refueling and relaiblity (field repairable, easily (even with "crap fuel")).

Definitely get the "full kits" (bag, parts, spare tube ss wire et al) if you are going to be a user/abuser. It is annoying to have to do a field repair.  Terrible to go without hot food. Unforgivable to go with out hot drinks...basic life support.

Price Paid: $65 USD approx.

Great functionality! Very reliable!

Pros

  • Versatility
  • Dependable

Cons

  • Need knowledge to clean jets

I've had this stove for over 15 years. I've taken it around the world. In Iraq - burned white gas and JP-5.  Did a great job, always had hot coffee quickly! I love it!
