Mountaintop Traveling 40L

This backpack is for those on a serious budget. If you require a medium-volume backpack for one- to two-day treks this pack might be for you. However if you are going to use it as a dedicated hiking pack I would suggest spending more and getting something higher quality.
Pros
- Low cost
- Lightweight
- Wide top zipper
- Includes rainfly
Cons
- Generally low quality
- Non-adjustable
- Can be uncomfortable
In all fairness, I cannot be upset with the performance of this backpack. It is roughly 36 liters and did stand up to three days in Alaska and four in Yellowstone NP. The pack is not incredibly adjustable. The shoulder straps and hip belt can be tightened but that's it. While having it sit comfortably on my shoulders the hip belt rode a couple inches high on my waist, and as a 5'7" man that is really odd. If you are shorter by a few inches, this pack will probably fit you no problem.
Being only 36 liters, this pack will not hold all that much weight, but comfort does become an issue. There would be aluminum stays on a standard backpack, this one has what feels like cardboard directly behind the back padding. Under capacity, this panel will flex. I would not use this pack for more than two days at a time.
Compression is almost non-existent. There is one strap on each side that works reasonably well, and two on the bottom where the sleeping bag compartment is. Dedicated compression straps were a must for me.
After six months of backpacking trips (four in total) and use in college as a school backpack, I cannot be disappointed with the performance/cost ratio. Although rather low quality overall, it has held up surprisingly well given what it goes through.
The zippers tend to get stuck and don't zip very smoothly, and the dimensions are kinda awkward for carrying anything wider than a binder, but other than that it is satisfactory for the price.
