An excellent packable windbreaker that will stuff into ANY empty space you have in your pack.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Extremely packable
  • Windproof
  • Breathable

Cons

  • Looks like a garbage bag

I love my Mountain Hardwear Ghost Lite Jacket! At 6' and 210 lbs I'm able to get into the Large very comfortably. It fits without being "fitted". Clearly, since they've kept the weight to 3 oz, there isn't any "extra" material.

This jacket stuffs itself into its own right-hand pocket and winds up being about the size of a kid's pencil bag. After that, it will easily stuff into any available space you have in your pack.

Keep in mind that this is a windbreaker, not a raincoat. While the thin nylon shell is "water resistant" it will not keep you dry if it really begins to rain.

You can layer it—I guess—if the other garment is sufficiently thin and has a slick exterior surface. For the purpose of this review I put in on over my Eddie Bauer IgniteLite jacket, and I was very comfortable moving around in that get-up. By doing this you'd gain an added measure of wind and moisture protection.

It's very well designed. The hood stows away in the collar—secured via a small velcro strip. The zippers and seams are all very well constructed and I haven't had any problems with snagging.

20170707_101218-1-.jpgI've used this on several hikes ranging from cool, damp days to warmer, but blustery ones. In all cases, this jacket has been a welcome addition to the trip. I highly recommend you get one.

Note:  I worry every time I wear it because, although I've never snagged it on anything, the fabric seems very, very delicate.  I find myself being very cautious around thorns and the like.
