MontBell Thermawrap Pro Jacket
The Thermawrap Pro Jacket has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best synthetic insulated jackets for 2024.
A well constructed, all-around jacket for layering under a hardshell or wearing standalone. Eliminates having to worry about changing and wet conditions.
Pros
- Exceloft insulation retains loft, even after being crushed repeatedly
- Simple, functional, no-nonsense design
- Well-made with excellent materials
Cons
- Pit zips or venting would expand its active wear capabilities
My Thermawrap Pro hooded jacket is a relatively lightweight and warm jacket when worn by itself or layered under a shell. Montbell's Exceloft holds its loft even after being repeatedly stuffed into a compression sack. I haven't experienced cold spots.
In fickle Midwest winters, the Thermawrap Pro has a dual personality... keeping me warm in deep, dry cold but handling body vapor and external moisture when conditions fluctuate between miserably wet days and bone-chilling nights. It's a go-to layering essential in wet or high exertion conditions where down isn't appropriate.
The hand-feel of the inner lining is fabric-like rather than plasticky. Generous hood and sensible drawstrings let me get the fit right whether as a standalone jacket or layer.
