MontBell Alpine Burrow Bag Thermal Sheet
Adds extra warmth to a lightweight sleeping bag to extend its use into colder weather. Very lightweight, but very slim cut won't fit big people, but adds a real 5 to 10 degrees to any sleeping bag depending on your metabolism.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Excellent design for use as an ultralight summer quilt
- Low purchase cost
Cons
- Only available in one size, which will not fit big people
The good points first:
Like most MB gear it is well made and the design is well thought out.
It isn't expensive and it is an excellent idea for those who do not have enough money to buy a warmer sleeping bag and who want to camp in cooler conditions. The short zipper makes access easy enough and the gusset at the bottom of the separating zipper makes conversion to using it quilt style very simple.
The bag has about a centimeter of loft, about the same as an army poncho liner in fact, and packs down into a small stuff sack of about a litre and a half and could be squashed smaller.
The synthetic insulation is a good choice for wetter conditions and I bought it as an emergency bag to carry in my day pack "just in case," and while it offers enough insulation to use for this purpose in the warmer parts of the year it isn't quite warm enough to use as such in an Australian winter above the snowline.
It is simply too small for large people and I will be selling mine for these reasons.
I would recommend it for the intended purpose if you wore no larger than a men's Large in clothing.
I am 186 cm tall and have a 117 cm chest and usually wear XL in clothing and XXL in Mont-Bell.
