Manzella Sprint
The Sprint offers great flexibility for active winter enthusiasts. While touted as a liner, this glove can be worn alone for a variety of pursuits. The gloves are very durable, hold their shape when wet, and comfortable.
Pros
- Very tough
- Dry quickly
- Hold shape
- Effective alone or as a liner
Cons
- Not *quite* warm enough alone when temps hit below 25
- Do not hold warmth when quite wet
I can hardly say enough about how much I like these gloves.
I did buy these gloves before they were offered with the touch tips, so I cannot speak to that feature that is now offered with these gloves.
My hands are not really an "off the shelf" size, but these glove fit well on variety of hand shapes of similar volume. I have a pretty short little finger, and the pinky doesn't flop like I have had in other gloves. These fit well -- just snug enough that they ride well, becoming part of my hand, but they never, ever bind or pinch.
The cuff is perfect. It's not so long that it is hard to peel off if the glove is damp, but not too short that it won't stay put under my jacket or shirt cuff.
Since this is a liner glove, it has no adjustments. But the poly fabric forms well to my hands.
Also as a liner glove, it is not really designed to be a stand alone glove in wet weather. It handles the damp of light rain or snow, but in a bad rain, when they wet out, they no longer hold their warmth, but they were not really designed for that.
My hands, once I get warmed up and am working out fairly hard to not seem to sweat in these. The polyester wicks the moisture fine.
As I noted before, these gloves are not designed for deep cold as a liner. They handle down to 25 or so, depending on the user. But even when my hands start out cold, I like these because they are perfect once I get warm. Using a heavier glove makes my hands hot, then they sweat-- but these keep my hands at a really nice temperature during my activities.
Since they are designed to layer, they work just like they are designed. Not only do they work well under my fleece or heavy mittens, I use them in winter to layer under my bike gloves. I was hesitant to do so the first time, but they worked amazingly well in that application.
One of the things I love best about these gloves is I don't have to take them off every time I need to do something, like blow my nose, dig in my pack, handle a zipper, or so forth. The fit to my hand so well, that I can just wear them and not think about them, right down to eating lunch with them on and not have the experience feel weird.
I was also worried about since these gloves "fit me like a glove" that they would be hard to put on and off. I did not need to worry. They are sufficiently stretchy so they give comfortably in putting them on or taking them off, and they don't ball up like a wadded sock in the process.
The poly material dries quickly, and Manzella includes a rubberized pattern on the palm to provide some grip. I find it to be enough for handling most things, but it is not so sticky that it's hard to get my hands in and out of mittens, my pockets, etc. The logo on the back of the glove and the pattern on the palm are reflective too, which is a nice feature for night safety.
I have used these gloves pretty hard over the last five winters. While they certainly do not look new, they don't show any serious sign of distress or over-wear. While I do try to take care of my things, I still USE them. With the miles of hanging onto hiking poles, being stuffed into pockets, used biking, and used in every day wear, they have held up like iron.
These are my go-to gloves for all of my winter activity wear. They go under my bike gloves when I winter ride. I LOVE them for snow-shoeing. They live in my coat pocket for my winter walks. I even throw them in my backpack for longer or cooler trips during the summer. They are stylish and attractive enough that I am comfortable wearing them to work.
I would buy these gloves over and over again.
