Magellan (Academy Sports) Yosemite

rated 1.5 of 5 stars

We used this tent for the first time this past weekend in temperatures that reached mid-40s at night. No rain. During the night it would develop condensation on all interior surfaces and on the roof between the fly and the mesh. It's an easy tent to assemble, but this single experience as well as reviews of other Magellan tents have ruined my interest in their products.

I brought this tent for an overnight camping trip. This was only my second tent purchase. The set up was easy, about 10 minutes by myself and I'm 5'6.

I didn't get any rain and after and over night low in the mid 50's there was a bit of condensation on the top of the walls. But I didn't seal the seams on it either. I could sit in the center of the tent and full a full size mat, a child size chair and my gym bag. So its ok size for 1 comfortably, 2 would be on the cozy side with gear.

This tent does fit back in the bag with the poles if folded correctly. All in all it was an ok tent. Worked great, no complaints yet.

My friend and I bought this tent, only to be disappointed when we set it up.

We discovered that even though the tent says it's a 9x8, that we both could barely fit in it. The space between the walls of the tent are maybe... 4 feet apart max.

Also, when we woke up the next morning after sleeping in it, we were very unhappy to find condensation all over the walls of the tent. Our sleeping bags that were against the sides of the tent, got wet.

This tent can fit one grown person comfortably. Or it could fit two small children comfortably.

We ended up selling the tent, and buying a Magellan 9x12 tent, with which we are now very happy with.

Price Paid: $40

I used this tent with my grandson on a cub scout weekend. The mesh on this tent is useless. We have NO-See-Ums in this area of Florida. The mesh did not prevent the NO-See-Ums from coming into the tent. We were literally eaten alive. We had a miserable time.

I'm so sorry that I purchased this tent from Academy Sport. I will never purchase another tent from Academy Sports. I have educated myself about the mesh on tents because of this experience.
