Lowe Alpine Flywheel 30
The Flywheel 30 has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best daypacks for 2024.
After buying the arc'teryx bora 30 (see my previous review) i stuck with it for about a week or so and gave up. At 1.8kg just for the pack alone, it is very heavy. It may be a climbing pack but the added kg's count when you're hanging on by your fingers.
after reading reviews on the lowe alpine contour runner for the last 8 years, i swapped the bora for the new lowe alpine flywheel 30 in cobalt blue.
1st impressions, wow it's light!!! if you are carying heavy loads, you don't want to be also carrying extra poundage witht he pack as well! quality ripstop material that sheds rain better than packcloth (even though it comes with a tuck away raincover!!).
the back system is a thick foam pad that feels like you are relaxing on the couch when you put it on! the shoulder straps are well padded and the waist belt is not padded to save annoying jabs in the bag when its slung over the shoulder.
the mesh pockets (improved on the contour runner) are great for drinks, snacks, bus passes, pens, keys and cellphones.
my new lowe alpine flywheel 30 is a relatively new best friend but i know that we are going to have many happy years together.
if you have a contour runner that needs upgrading, the flywheel may be a great improved choice.
comes in red, yellow and, possibly the better color, cobalt blue.
