Lowa Mountain Boot GTX

rated 4.5 of 5 stars
photo: Lowa Mountain Boot GTX backpacking boot

I've worn Corcoran, GI Issue Combats/Jungles, UK Issue Combats, Matterhorns etc, etc. After 24 years in the US Army and USAF Security Forces I've worn out a lot of pairs of boots.

Retired in '91, and recently took up as an Army Cadet Instructor in the UK. Bought a pair of Lowas on a whim after hearing they were a good boot (and being retired I've got money to burn I didn't have on active duty).

Simply put, they are the "dog's bollocks" of boots. After dropping in a pair of Sorbethane foorbeds, I wore them for a long weekend on Dartmoor. Not sure how many miles I covered with 75 litres of kit on my back, but these were somewhere between wearing a really comfortable pair of slippers, with a pair of running shoes with the finest ankle support I've ever come across.

Man those fellas at Lowa can make a pair of boots.

Anyone looking for the best in soldiering footwear need look no further ... Lowa has cracked it!!

I love these boots! The most comfortable, warm, waterproof boot I have ever used. Nice light weight, correct degree of flex, excellent lacing system. Top quality materials and construction. Bad points? - the supplied footbeds are nothing special and will be replaced with Sorbothane jobs.

Broken in quickly and then used for lots of long Scottish mountain walks. The higher leg design gives great support and helps keep the crud out (I don't like gaiters), the heel cutout allows extra flex when walking and the light weight noticeably reduces fatigue.

As close to 'the perfect boot' as I have seen.

I must give a plug to DropZone Supplies at www.army-surplus.co.uk for their help and free nextday delivery.

Nice pair of boots that love lots of polish and stay looking the bussines through four weeks of hell on the hills around Catterick. Chuck the naff insoles out as they scrunch up and start to piss you off, Sorbothane Shockstoppers are it glued in with bostick. Still tabing in em and fit like a glove.

bought in Halifax at B. Aaron & Sons

The best leather boot I have ever worn, second hand and re-conditioned from B.AARON and Son in Halifax.

Fit like gloves thanks to width fittings, waterproof with Gore Tex linings and Vibram soles.

A boot made for people interested in walking not fashion.

After wearing a pair of these you'll wonder why you ever spent all that money on inferior boots.

Great boots! Worn every day, last 4 years. thousands of miles travelled in them. No blisters!! Very comfy. Totally waterproof. Only fault in them is my feet get very wet if boots worn for more than 2 or 3 hours. Can you get them without gor-tex?
