With growing interest in the outdoors, navigating the world of hammocks can be pretty tricky. If you’re new to the backcountry or if you’ve been camping since you were a toddler, gear can become incredible overwhelming.
But L.L. Bean's Camping Hammock does a great job of making "hanging" easy. The Camping Hammock is easily L.L. Bean's most colorful and comfortable hammock. Setting it up is really easy. It's not difficult to pitch it right on the first try. And it can hold up to 400lbs. It even packs into a pocket that's sewn into the side of the hammock. Whether you’re lounging in your back yard or looking for a lightweight shelter, this hammock offers a really impressive option that wont leave you bankrupt after your purchase.
Weight: 2lbs
Cost: $79.95
If you're interested in turning your hammock into a shelter, the Camping Hammock can be paired with a bug net and a rainfly. I probably wouldn't use this as a shelter on a backpacking trip because there are lighter options out there. But for a weekend expedition, or as a camping luxury, this hammock is a really nice option.
Room & Storage: If you opt to turn the Camping Hammock into a shelter, the weight limit should allow you to hang your gear from the hammock. This allows you to keep your pack away from potential flooding and eager critters.
Conditions: I tested this hammock out in Colorado's backcountry. Using it predominantly as a casual hammock (rather than a shelter), I was incredibly pleased with the easy of setup and overall durability. I was never concerned that the fabric or straps might give out on me. You can easily fit two people in this product.
Final Thoughts About The Camping Hammock: After spending a couple of days in the Camping Hammock, I found that I was desperately in love with this product. Although I typically err on the side of ultralight gear, this hammock may be a luxury item that I just have to keep. The durability and competitive cost make this hammock a game-changer.
