L.L.Bean Alpine Hiking Boots, Leather
These are use-right-out-of-the-box hiking boots! Really! Leather hiking boots that fit perfect and can be hiked in immediately.
Pros
- Soft leather
- Padded interior
- Great traction
Cons
- Laces are a bit long
I purchased these in MN at L.L.Bean as replacements for an older worn out pair of leather Coleman boots. I planned on some break-in time and was taking these with me to GA to hike a portion of the AT.
I wore them out of the store and soon found that I didn't need to worry about break-in time as they fit perfect without rub points.
Worn in GA hiking close to 50 miles of State Park and AT trail systems in a six-day timeframe. These boots performed above my expectations. The temps in GA averaged around 24°F and my feet were never cold. The traction it provided on icy spots while hiking on the AT were exactly what I needed.
The leather is soft but durable. I treated with mink oil prior to my hikes in GA and after my hikes in GA. They have this beautiful dark cement color that has remained even after treatment with the mink oil.
The only issue is that the boot laces are a bit long! Well, that is not much of a complaint in any situation when it comes to new leather hiking boots.
Background
These have performed so far as well as my LOWA leather boots that are well broken-in.
