Kelty Night Owl 3

rated 4.5 of 5 stars
photo: Kelty Night Owl 3 three-season tent

Larger tent with room enough for three. Light enough to haul in a backpack, on a bike or canoe. Easier setup with color-coded sides. Would recommend and would get 5 stars if we didn't have a sewing defect on the rainfly.

Pros

  • Big enough for Hubby and myself and all our gear
  • Lightweight enough to carry in canoe, backpack, or bike
  • Quick dry
  • 2 side doors

Cons

  • Sewing defect on rain fly on first use
  • A bit large for one person, but could be managed
  • Cost

Even Kelty quality can come with defects. This is clearly a sewing error that resulted in a rip in the seam on the first setup.

Background

I have always found Kelty to be one of my favorites in camping gear and was a bit disappointed when this tent had a rip in the seam the first time out. I contacted Kelty and due to COVID and the fact that I live in Europe they directed me to a distributor in France who never returned my inquiries! Great customer service and replies by Kelty, not so much with distributor in France!!!

I will use the rain fly as is for now until I can bring to the States and send back to Kelty to get a replacement.

We plan to use for canoe and bike trips when we can't camp in our VW Caddy. We were happy with the first time using (although not happy about the rip). Purchased in April 2021 from Amazon.nl as all sold out on this model on most camping websites I visited.
