Hillary 8-Man Tent
Pros
- Cream and green striped tent dad bought when I was a kid. The only tent I have ever used and still use.
- Easy setup once you know how to set up. Withstood 60mph winds with nots omuch as a whimper
Cons
- Not exactly waterproof
- Zippers catch a ton
- Can be hot in summer weather
- Cross breeze not available if windows not open
OMG, I love this tent. Yes, maybe for nostalgic reasons, and quite possibly because I know nothing else. Nonetheless, I love the tent.
Dad bought it in 1976 when he bought a jet boat, so it was only meant for summers by the river, but recently (since Dad gave it to me) it has been used in the mountains and extremely high winds with rain downpours and did great. Dad probably scotchguarded it at some point.
Being that this tent is over 40 years old and not even a hole, just one broken pole that I repaired with a couple tent stakes as a splint and some duct tape, and a temperamental zipper, it's been a great investment I would have to say.
Been used by three generations now and still going strong. If you have the opportunity to buy one (on eBay) I highly recommend it. Three queen size mattresses can be inflated, with room to walk and gear stored. Also, standing fully upright is a nice advantage. If anyone has one and doesn't know how to set it up, let me know, I can walk you thru it.
This tent is a cream heavy canvas with green stripes on top...kind of reminds you of a circus tent.
