Hanwag Matterhorn

After university I worked for an outfitter in Alberta, Canada. Guides, Park Wardens, and climbers nearly to the exclusion of all others used Han Wag's. The Matterhorn is waterproof top grain in/out with incredible heel support to avoid lang bang. Grommets are rivited, and support very good. the sole is high carbon Vibram with double-stitched norweigan weklt stitching which avoids delamination. Wider than average last. 3/4 shank. European sizing means comes in more sizes (3 1/2 - 14). EVA wedge in heel makes walking in heavy boots easier. Has a full gusett. The best boot I've ever owned. Did the West Coast Trail, The 80km Cdn Sawback, Egypt Lake circuit in Alberta, and a couple of hundred kms in Yoho, BC Canada. The boots are expensive, but I've seen enough broken ankles, legs, and severe sprains to know it's well money well spent.
