Gander Mountain Trailhead 8 Family Dome

rated 4.0 of 5 stars
photo: Gander Mountain Trailhead 8 Family Dome three-season tent

Not a tent that is easily set up by one to two persons. You need at least three people to set up easily. Living space is large. Poles are fiberglass and will eventually wear out.

Pros

  • Large
  • Three entrance
  • Tall center section easing entry and exit

Cons

  • Not very wind friendly
  • Three plus people to set up easily
  • Rain fly does not cover end entrances enough

All in all a decent buy for what I paid.

The footprint is a tad odd and staking should be done from the center first, then the ends stretched taught prior to raising.

Rain fly should be about a foot longer to provide six inches more coverage on the ends. Good airflow through the tent and good floorspace throughout.

The ends are tall enough to allow queen air mattresses with the center being used for "common" area.

The front entrance shoe mat is, well, a mystery as to why it was even thought of, but can be left detached. The tent does have a mesh gear stowage hammock at the center ceiling which can hold light objects.

I set this tent up alone and it took almost 45 minutes.

Well made, lots of space.

Pros

  • Lots of room
  • Handles weather well

Cons

  • Bulky
  • Needs stronger anchors to the ground

Well made and holds my family of five and dog as well as my sister in-law and her three daughters. We have two queen size beds and three full size beds. Blocks wind well and keeps the heat inside on cool nights.
