FireSteel Armageddon
A ferrocerium rod that generates 5,500 deg F sparks in any weather condition.
Pros
- Thousands of sparks
- Small and easy to carry
- Easy to strike
Cons
- User skill and practice is required
A fire starter is great to have, especially if you encounter wet conditions. I have the Armageddon firesteel from firesteel.com. With the Armageddon, you will literally get thousands of sparks before wearing it out. It puts out sparks up to 5500 deg F and it works in all conditions.
Carry this firesteel with a couple of petroleum jelly coated cotton balls and you have a fire starter which will work even when wet. All you need to find is some dry tinder to get the fire really going. Using the cotton ball method, it has only taken me one strike on the steel to get the cotton lit.
This firestarter can also be used to start a canister stove as well.
